As one of the petroleum products, bitumen has different types. One of the types of bitumen is 60/70 bitumen, which is classified as penetrating bitumen. Vacuum battom oxidation method is used in the production of this bitumen. In this way, 60/70 bitumen is obtained during the aeration process that takes place on the bottom of the distillation tower known as vacuum battom.
Bitumen 60/70 has thermoplastic properties and therefore, like synthetic resin, it becomes softer when exposed to heat and hardens when exposed to cold. This type of bitumen also has a very high viscosity compared to other types of bitumen and its uses are many.
Bitumen 60/70 is used for insulation in areas with moderate climate and since its permeability is around 60 to 70, it is named as bitumen 60/70. The physical state of bitumen depends on its temperature, and its temperature and hardness are determined according to the type of oil and refining method.

Applications of bitumen 60/70

Since bitumen 60/70 has a permeability between 6 and 7 mm, it is known as one of the types of heavy bitumen and is often used in road construction and road repair operations. This bitumen is the most used in asphalt production and the asphalt produced with it is often used for surface coating. Bitumen 60/70 is known as one of the most widely used types of bitumen and is the raw material of many other bitumen products. As mentioned earlier, bitumen 60/70 is known as a penetrating bitumen and is most used in asphalt production and road construction operations with road grade grading. This bitumen is sold through refineries in sealed packages.

As mentioned earlier, it is the temperature of the bitumen that determines its physical state, and its temperature and hardness also depend on the refining method and the type of crude oil from which the bitumen is obtained.
Petroleum or industrial bitumens are somehow classified as solid and semi-solid bitumens, which are obtained as a result of crude oil distillation or operations such as aeration. Bitumen 60/70 is also a heavy substance left over from the distillation of crude oil. Bitumen quality can vary depending on various factors such as equipment, geographical environment, etc.

Bitumen production usually takes place in two ways, continuous and discontinuous, each of which takes place under specific conditions as follows:

Continuous bitumen production:
During this process, a certain amount of feed with a certain temperature and in a continuous form enters the aeration tower and leaves it after performing the aeration operation. This method is usually used in refineries and facilitates the process, reducing air consumption also helps to save aeration time.
Continuous bitumen production:
In the discontinuous method, the aeration tower is filled with a certain amount of feed, then air is blown under special conditions, and after the product reaches the desired conditions, the tower is emptied and its contents are transferred into the built-in tanks.

How to transport and store bitumen 60/70

Bitumen is one of the products that must be transported and maintained with safety precautions and under special conditions. To transport all types of bitumen, it is necessary to categorize and store them separately. For bitumen storage, a clean and covered place should be considered for this purpose. Avoid exposing this product to water, snow and cold. Bitumen storage warehouses should be equipped with proper ventilation to prevent the accumulation of flammable gases.

Purchase and price of bitumen 60/70

Bitumen price is determined depending on various components. Therefore, it is definitely not possible to consider a specific price for it. Among the factors involved in the price of bitumen are the degree of softness of bitumen, its ignition degree, transportation conditions, the amount of demand, packaging, the producer’s refinery, the place of bitumen extraction and the way of purchase, whether directly or through intermediaries.

Bitumen 60/70 has the following characteristics:

Softening point: Its softening point is between 49 and 56 degrees Celsius. This means that this bitumen hardens at temperatures below 49°C and softens at temperatures above 56°C.
Boiling point: The boiling point of 70/60 bitumen is between 220 and 260 degrees Celsius.
Adhesion: The adhesion of this type is good. This means that this bitumen can adhere well to other surfaces.
Permeability: Its permeability is relatively low. This means that this bitumen is resistant to water penetration.
Dynamic softening temperature: Its dynamic softening temperature is between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Dynamic friction coefficient: Its dynamic friction coefficient is between 0.4 and 0.6.
