Gilsonite or mineral bitumen is a solid hydrocarbon and a type of asphalt, which is often found in natural bitumen mines and is actually hardened crude oil. Gilsonite is found in underground mines as a black and hard substance with a shiny surface. Due to the fragility of this material, its application is often in the form of powder, which has a dark brown to black color. Gilsonite 10-15% is natural bitumen with a range of ash which is producing from Gilsonite lumps. Application of Gilsonite
The amount of ash in Gilsonite determines its use. There are two types of Gilsonite including Gilsonite with less than 5% ash and Gilsonite with 15% ash.
Gilsonite with 15% ash has many uses in paint and resin industries. Gilsonite with less than 5% ash is also used in the production of aluminum anodes, drilling fluids, steel industry and sand casting.
